Possibly worth mentioning regarding the poynter results is that these graphics dont take into account header blindnes. If the header area of your page contains branding and menu as well as important information, that important information might be missed. Users will generally see header, disregard it as brand menu and advertising and move on down the page. A useful alternative to this graphic may be more like this.
